Jute is one of the most versatile fibre and also it is eco - friendly which has various uses in the form of mainly for manufacturing of Hessian Cloths, Sacking Cloths, Jute Yarn, Carpet Backing Cloths (CBC), Hessian Bags, Sacking / Gunny Bags, Twines, D.W. Tarpaulin / P.W. Canvas, Shopping Bags, Geo-Textiles, Jute Mats and Floor Coverings, Tobacco Sheets, Carpets and many more.

Raw Jute fibres are graded according to the properties (Length, Strength, Fineness, Colour, Lustre, Roots and Cleanliness and Uniformity in colour etc.) of the fibres.

Raw Jute is divided into two main categories on the basis of quality as follows.

1. Pucca Grading: Raw jute from which roots have been cut.

2. Kutcha Grading: Raw jute from which roots have not been cut.

Raw Jute is divided into two main categories on the basis of colour as follows.

1. Bangla White Jute: Colours are may be White / Creamy White / Light Cream / Straw / Light Grey / Light Reddish etc.

2. Bangla Tossa Jute:Colours are may be Golden / Red / Grey / Coppery Grey / Mixed in Colour etc.

There are six grades for both White and Tossa Jute. The characteristics specified for various grades are given below.

A. Bangla White Jute Grade:

1. Bangla White Special (BWS)

a. White or creamy white

b. Fibre of finer texture

c. Very strong and very good lustre, clean cut and well hackled

d. Completely free from any defects

e. Entirely free from red ends

2. Bangla White A (BWA)

a. White to light cream

b. Fibre of fine texture

c. Strong and very good lustre, clean cut and well hackled

d. Completely free from red ends and any blemish

3. Bangla White B (BWB)

a. Light cream to straw colour

b. Fibre of good texture

c. Strong and good lustre, clean cut and well hackled

d. Free from blemish and red ends excluded

4. Bangla White C (BWC)

a. Light grey or light reddish to straw colour

b. Sound strength

c. Average lustre

d. Clean fibre but free from hard specks and croppy or hard gummy tops

e. Well cut, well hackled, free from black roots and tops and red soft ends permissible.

5. Bangla White D (BWD)

a. Any colour

b. Average strength

c. Occasional bark and specks permissible

d. Slightly croppy and gummy tops permissible

e. Well cut, well hackled and red ends permissible.

6. Bangla White E (BWE)

a. Any colour

b. Any strength, but free from perishing fibres

c. Free from any untreated jute & sticks, but bark and hard centre permissible. Rough cutand well hackled.

B. Bangla Tossa Jute Grade:

1. Bangla Tossa Special (BTS)

a. Uniform golden or reddish colour

b. The fibre of finer texture

c. Very strong

d. Very good lustre

e. Clean cut and well hackled

f. Completely free from any defects

2. Bangla Tossa A (BTA)

a. Uniform sliver grey / light golden to golden / reddish colour

b. Fine texture

c. Strong and good lustre

d. Clean cut and well hackled

e. Completely free from any blemish.

3. Bangla Tossa B (BTB)

a. Light to medium grey or reddish excluding dark grey colour

b. Sound clean

c. Good texture

d. Average lustre

e. Clean cut and well hackled

f. Free from blemish and any defects

4. Bangla Tossa C (BTC)

a. Mixed colours

b. Average strength

c. Occasional bark and soft speckes allowable

d. Free for runners

e. Slightly croppy and gummy tops permissible

f. Well cut and hackled but free from any black hard root ends and any black hard tops.

5. Bangla Tossa D (BTD)

a. Mixed colour

b. Average strength

c. Occasional bark and specks allowable

d. Free for runners

e. Croppy and gummy tops permissible

f. Rough cut and well hackled

g. Free from black root ends

6. Bangla Tossa E (BTE)

a. Any colour

b. Any strength, but free from perished fibre

c. Free from unretted jute and stick

d. Rough cut and hackled bark and hard Centre permissible

C. Rejection,Habijabi and Cuttings Grades:

1. White:

Bangla White Rejection (BWR)

Bangla White Habijabi (BWH)

Bangla White Cutting A (BWCA)

Bangla White Cutting B (BWCB)

2. Tossa:

Bangla Tossa Rejection (BTR)

Bangla Tossa Habijabi (BTH)

Bangla Tossa Cutting A (BTCA)

Bangla Tossa Cutting B (BTCB)
